Solidarity actions and demos were held in 20 different cities today, 57th day of the hunger strike by Kurdish political prisoners. People attending the demos asked the government to meet prisoners' demands.
In Viransehir (Urfa) people were prevented from marching so held a press conference in front of the BDP buildings. Hundreds joined the press conference underlining that "the prisoners' demands are our demands" and staging a sit-in.
In Batman people reached the prison where it was disclosed that yesterday other 100 prisoners had joined the hunger strike. People in Batman are planning a rally on Sunday.
Members of the Democracy Platform in Siirt sent letters to the Turkish President, Prime Minister and a number of international institutions including EU, CPT and WHO, calling for urgent action concerning the hunger strike which has already entered a critical stage.

Labour and Democracy Platform in the southern province of Antalya staged a demonstration and called on the government to recognize the right to education and defense in mother tongue. The hunger strike at BDP provincial organization has been taken over by a new group.
Kurdish and Turkish students at Adnan Menderes University in the western province of Aydýn staged a march in solidarity with the prisoners on fast. Their banners read ‘We want solution, not death’.
Thousands of people joined the march in Van before the sit-in in front of the municipality building. Demonstrators condemned the government’s attitude towards the protest.
Hundreds of students at Hakkari University started a two-day hunger strike at two separate points in the campus area. Students described the government’s attitude as ‘fascism’ and called for public attention to the protest by prisoners.
Peace Mothers Initiative in Diyarbakýr’s Bismil district staged a sit-in near the municipality building where -mothers said- they will continue to perform their action every day until prisoners end their hunger strike.
The Turkish Council of Peace in Ankara released a written statement on the hunger strike and called for urgent constitutional assurance for the right to education and defense in mother tongue.
The support hunger strikes in Kurtalan (Siirt), Karabaðlar and Konak (Ýzmir) continue with new groups and new solidarity hunger strikes have been started in Gercüþ (Batman), Menemen (Ýzmir), Dersim and Tekirdað.
