Swedish MEP Malin Björk met with the CPT on Öcalan

Malin Björk said the CPT has informed her that they are in contact with Turkey on the issue of isolation and that they could, however, not reveal the content of the talks.

Malin Björk MEP has met with officials from the Committee for the Prevention of Torture (CPT) to talk about the isolation of Kurdish People's Leader Öcalan.

Swedish euro deputy Malin Björk from the GUE / NGL group, met with the CPT, that is keeping silent about the isolation imposed on Öcalan.

After the meeting, Björk said that the CPT had distorted information related to the demands of the hunger strikers. She said the CPT officials told them that “the freedom of Öcalan was among the demands of the hunger strike activists.”

Björk MEP added: “In response to the CPT’s comment about the activists’ demands, we have said that the Kurdish people indeed are asking for the freedom of Öcalan. The hunger strikers however are asking the CPT to act ‘for the removal of isolation on the Kurdish People's Leader Abdullah Öcalan.”

Malin Björk said the CPT has informed her that they are in contact with Turkey on the issue of isolation and that they could, however, not reveal the content of the talks.

GUE/NGL Group deputy Björk said that they told the CPT they are following its work and we asked the CPT to urge Turkey to end the crimes committed against human rights and freedom”.
