Turkey ratifies convention on protection of children

Turkey has today ratified the Council of Europe’s Convention on the Protection of Children against Sexual Exploitation and Sexual Abuse.

Turkish State Minister Selma Aliye Kavaf, who is responsible for women and family affairs, said Turkey’s laws were adequate to protect its children, and added that the convention approved by Turkey was a major step forward in cooperation for the protection of children from all kinds of violence and abuse.

More than 40 countries have signed the Council of Europe’s convention, which came into effect on July 1. The convention aims to prevent sexual offenses against children, prosecute perpetrators and protect victims.
