Turkish state turns a blind eye on ill prisoners

At a press conference called to draw attention to the situation of ill prisoners, the organisers used very hard sentences: “The state assassinates the revolutionaries to take their possession. In 3 years, 309 prisoners were killed in jails.”
A number of democratic mass organizations and political parties, as well as intellectuals and artists, held a press conference at Yüksel District. The group carried banners writing “Freedom for ill prisoners” and shouted slogans like “Stop the isolation, stop deaths” and “Revolutionary prisoners are our honor”.

Speaking to the press in the name of the group, Semiha Eðilik underlined that ‘the silent demolishing policy against the ill prisoners is continuing", remembering Güler Zere, diagnosed with cancer, who died a few weeks ago. Eðilik said “Had Güler Zere been treated much earlier, she would be living now.” She stated that many other patient prisoners will be exposed to the same situation. Eðilik went on, saying that AKP power and Ministry of Justice can’t avoid responsibility by saying ‘they were ill’, because, she stressed, the reason of their illnesses is the imprisonment circumstances.

Eðilik went on; “The state imposes the same policy to all prisoners; particularly to revolutionary, political and legal ones. It assassinates the revolutionaries to take their possession and other prisoners because it doesn’t care about them. The number of assassinated prisoners in 3 years is 309. The state is legalizing the violation directed to workers, laborers, proletarian, prisoners and all parts of the society and so absolving itself and accomplices. It doesn’t care about the death of a contract coal miner."
