Ibrahim Dinçer, who is in Silivri 7 L Type Closed Prison, talked about the pressures he was subjected to in a closed visit with his family on 13 April.
Dinçer who has been sentenced to 15 years in prison and has been in prison for 4 years, told his mother, Şehnaz Dinçer, that the guards threatened him with death.
Dinçer’s mother said: “My son said that they are persecuted in prison. He said that they are given small meals, they are not allowed to play sports, they are verbally abused and heavily put under pressure.”
Dinçer’s mother said that his son told her he had heard that Ferhan Yılmaz, who was killed by torture, and another prisoner had died.
Adding that other prisoners told their families that they had experienced the same violations, Dinçer’s mother said that on 16 April two prisoners, Murat Akın and Metin Orman, in Silivri No. 7, went on a 10-day hunger strike against the violations.
Ferhan Yılmaz, who is in Silivri L Type Closed Prison No. 5, was hospitalized for allegedly having a heart attack and died on Sunday. The Ministry of Justice claimed the cause of death as "cardiac arrest". His family and human rights organizations said that Ferhan Yılmaz had traces of torture on his body and that he was murdered by torture.
Many prisoners, including Ferhan Yılmaz, who was born in Batman, were seriously injured during the raid on the ward by 60 guards in Silivri Prison No. 5 on 10 April. Some of these prisoners were transferred to hospitals and some to other prisons. In recent years, oppression, torture and deaths in Turkish prisons have reached an unprecedented level.
