Unrest in Iranian prison after executions

Following the sudden transfer of Farhad Vakili from ward 350 on Saturday May 8, and his execution the next day along with 4 other prisoners, a vigil was held on Monday by prisoners housed in ward 350. The head of the ward reacted angrily at the vigil. The 180 prisoners housed in the ward announced that they were going on a hunger strike and started to refuse the meals delivered to the ward. According to some reports prisoners are being transferred from ward 350. Some have been moved to sections 7 and 8 of Evin prison, while others have been transferred to Karaj’s Rajai-Shahr prison. Ward 350 had been shut down in 2007 and was reopened in October 2009 by Tehran’s prosecutor, Jafari Dolatabadi.
