Urfa Bar Association’s Head Mehmet Velat İzol and members of the association’s board of directors attended Şenyaşar family's justice vigil.
The Justice Vigil launched on March 9, 2021, by Emine Şenyaşar who lost her husband and two sons in an armed attack on 14 June 2018 in the Suruç district of Urfa, that involved the bodyguards and relatives of AKP Deputy İbrahim Halil Yıldız, and her son Ferit Şenyaşar who was injured in the same attack, marks its 526th day in front of the courthouse in Urfa. The mother and her son came to the courthouse from their house in Suruç district early in the morning. While the mother and son were prevented from sitting in the shade at the entrance of the courthouse by the police, they started the vigil together with the administrators of the Urfa Bar Association in the "Şenyaşar Family Justice Corner". The head of the Urfa Bar Association, Mehmet Velat İzol, and the members of the Board of Directors of the Bar Association will keep today’s vigil with the family throughout the day.
'WE ARE NOT BEGGING FOR JUSTICE!'
Mehmet Velat İzol delivered a speech here and said, “The family has been demanding justice for 526 days. Unfortunately, their demands have not been met so far. We have been supporting Mother Emine for 526 days. The family has been subjected to numerous unlawful acts rather than justice. Investigations have been launched into the statements the mother made. Meanwhile, there has been no development for the last 4 years in the investigation concerning the massacre that the family members were subjected to. We appeal to the authorities; we are not begging for justice here, just implement the laws in accordance with your official responsibilities. The authorities must explain to the public and the family what they have been doing for 526 days. This is the family's main demand. Why is a murder case taking too long to deal with? We want to know this. The investigating authorities are constantly telling us that "justice will be served", but none of the promises made have been kept. Those officials who made promises in the first days have been replaced, and new prosecutors and judges have taken charge. New ones must keep these promises. We will continue to sit here even if it takes years.”
“A mother wants justice in Urfa for her son who was murdered in the hospital and her other son who has been jailed in a single cell for 4 years. The whole world heard her cry, except the Turkish authorities,” the family said on their social media account.
