Sixty years old Mehmet Aras is a convicted political prisoner suffering from throat cancer. He has been detained in Erzurum H typed closed for 2 years and he did not overcome his disease. He lost almost 40 weights because of his illness. Also Aras caught 30 different diseases while he was in prison.

Although both NGOs in Turkey and his friends in prison campaigned for his urgent release, until now they could not be successful.

Human Rights Association is calling upon you to urge to the Minister of Justice of Turkey to complete legal procedure and to the President of Turkey to use his/her authority for urgent release of Mehmet Aras, and to TBMM Commission on Human Rights to make necessary investigation.

Aras’ lawyer Þaziye Önder had warned last January against possible worse consequences in case of continuation of the imprisonment.
