What happened in prisons over the last 3 months?

TUHAD-FED issued a report on the rights violations in prisons over the last three months, and stated that the prisons implemented practices reminiscent of the September 12 coup days, which have intensified after the genocidal operations.

The Associations of Help for Prisoners’ Families Federation (TUHAD-FED) shared their report on the situation in prisons over the last three months with the public.

BANS, EXILES, PENALTIES, TORTURE...

The report states that rights violations in all prisons are on the rise, especially since the beginning of genocidal operations, and they include exile, naked searches, discipline penalties, communication bans, and confiscation of private belongings.

The report states that more than 600 detainees have been exiled from prisons in Kurdistan to prisons in Turkey. The prisoners exiled under the guise of “transferring” include several sick prisoners whose treatment is not possible in other prisons. The report also stresses that the exiles are only imposed upon the political prisoners, as a state policy.

The report states that the detainees were subjected to harrassment, naked searches, and serious physical and psychological pressure during the exile and again on entry to the new prison.

Pointing out that the AKP’s genocidal attacks affect prisons as well, the report states that prison administrations and wardens have taken their treatment that exceeds the bounds of human dignity to the level of torture. The report states that prison administrations give detainees unlawful penalties, including “communication bans, social activity bans, and solitary confinement”.

The report states that searches in prisons have become more frequent and detainees’ private belongings such as books, newspapers, bed sheets, blankets, tables, and chairs have been confiscated.

“RIGHT TO HEALTH OBSTRUCTED”

The report also includes rights violations such as reduced lawyer visits, nixing of the right to defend oneself in the mother tongue, failure to launch inquiries on the detainees’ complaints, and obstruction of right to health for all detainees including the chronically sick ones.

“PRACTICES OF SEPTEMBER 12”

TUHAD-FED’s report also states that practices reminiscent of the September 12 coup days are imposed upon the detainees again, such as stand-up roll calls and single-file lines during hospital, infirmary or telephone or family visits.
