Children detained in Diyarbakýr prison were punished for celebrating Kurdish New Year and hanging on the wall the photos of political leaders
The children jailed in Diyarbakýr prison for “throwing stones” at the police, were punished for celebrating Newroz, the Kurdish New Year, and for hanging the photos of revolutionary leader Deniz Gezmiþ and KCK executive Duran Kalkan on the walls of their cells. For 5 weeks the children will not have any social rights such making sport activities.
Hanging on the wall the photos of Deniz Gezmiþ, Duran Kalkan and other Kurdish politicians was consider by the prison authorities an offence, “carrying illegal posters”. The lawyers of the children stated that all their objections gave no result and that they will take the case to the European Court of Human Rights.
