Women to march against rape

Women to march against rape

Women will march together against rape on 23 May in Istanbul. The march is being organized by Democratic and Free Women Movement (DOKH) as part of a campaign against rape named “Create Democratic and Free Society and Abolish Rape”. The Campaign started in Hakkari on May 15th.

Emine Ozmen, activist for DOKH, explaines the goal of campaign and march: “We have to overcome violence against women. Violence is not just based on actions by men. This is a cultural problem. The culture of violence needs to be overcome by the society. Rape - she says - is part of this so called 'culture'. There is a kind of rape culture which has been nurtured by the culture of violence in Turkey. We need to make it clear and fight against it. I believe - she concludes - that this campaign will be a new mile stone for women and society in Turkey since our approach against rape is deeper and comprehensive."

Emine Ozmen also made a call for women to be active part in the solution of their own problem and attend the meeting against rape on 23 May in Istanbul.
