Faysal Yacan, Spokesperson of Youth Assembly of Peace and Democracy Party (DTP) Izmir Branch, was sentenced to 13 years in prison for “being member of an illegal organization” despite no evidence was produced against him.

According to Nezahat Paþa Bayraktar, lawyer for Yacan, called this decision as a scandal since Yacan’s name was not on the prosecutors’ indictment. Ýzmir 8th Heavy Penal Court rejected Yacan and his other friend’s, who is on the same trail, demand for Kurdish defense.

Yacan is still in Kýrýklar 1st F Type Prison despite his many serious health problems. His weight is under 50 due to his disease like heart, high blood pressure, hernia of belly, neck.

He had been taken into custody in 2003 during a protest demonstration in Van and police tied him up to panzer and drugged him a hundred meters.
