YRJ sends signatures protesting death sentences against Mohammadi and Azizi to 14 organizations

The Women’s Press Union (YRJ) sent the signatures it collected in its campaign against the death sentences given to women activists Sharifeh Mohammadi and Pakhshan Azizi in Iran to 14 organizations.

Pakhshan Azizi was sentenced to death on 23 July, and Sharifeh Mohammadi on 4 July. Both women were subjected to severe torture and inhumane treatment during their weeks of detention.

The YRJ’s “No to the Death Penalty” campaign was launched on 12 August.

The results of the 14-day petition were announced on 26 August: 36,398 signatures were collected as part of the campaign carried out in four parts of Kurdistan, Middle Eastern countries such as Syria, Lebanon, Egypt, Morocco and Europe.

According to the information provided to ANHA by the YRJ administration, the signatures collected were sent to the Committee to Protect Journalists, the International Union of Journalists, Reporters Without Borders, Reuters Agency, Oman, Somalia, Jordan, Lebanon, Egypt and the Southern Kurdistan Journalists Union, as well as the Mitro Center in South Kurdistan, MidPoint Organization, the International Union of Arab Journalists, International Human Rights Watch and many lawyers and human rights defenders.
