12 Turkish soldiers killed in Hakkari

12 Turkish soldiers were killed and 3 wounded in an attack by Kurdish guerrillas, People’s Defence Units’ (HPG) stated.

According to the HPG’s statement, Kurdish guerrillas carried out an action targeting a military convoy between Hakkari city center and Cukurca, a district of Hakkari province on 3 August.

The convoy was hit near Maymuke village at 23h and an armored Kirpi transport vehicle was destroyed. HPG reported that 12 Turkish soldiers were killed and three soldiers were wounded.

Turkish army evacuated the dead and wounded with Sikorsky helicopters. The road between Hakkari and Cukurca was blocked by the Turkish army after the attack.

Cukurca is a small border town between Turkey and Iraq and is a scene of very heavy clashes between Turkish army and PKK in recent weeks.
