13 soldiers killed in a raid by guerrillas in Çukurca

Guerrillas surrounded and hit the soldiers stationed on the Koordine hill in Çukurca, which left 13 soldiers dead and dozens of others wounded. One guerrilla fell as martyr during the action.

HPG Press Office announced the outcomes of the action carried out by guerrillas against Turkish soldiers on Koordine hill in Çukurca district of Hakkari.

Details of the HPG statement are as follows;

"At 23:00 on May 3rd, our forces conducted an extensive raid on Koordine hill in Çelê (Çukurca) district of Hakkari. In this action, our forces effectively hit the hill with heavy and individual weapons. During the action, surroundings of the hill were shelled by Turkish army's helicopters which were also hit by guerrillas and forced to retreat. At the same time, troops at Ertuş, Güvenlik hill, Êriş and Bılican outposts bombed the scene and surroundings with howitzer and mortar fire."

13 SOLDIERS KILLED, DOZENS OF OTHERS WOUNDED

HPG stated that during clashes that lasted around an hour, three containers on the hill were destroyed and several positions were hit and impaired.

Two guerrillas in the offensive group infiltrated the hill and hit the containers and positions here, leaving all of them burned to the ground.

13 soldiers were killed and dozens of others were wounded as result of this action, after which guerrillas hit the hill with mortars. Casualties of the Turkish army were later retrieved from the scene with Sikorsky helicopters.

HPG stated that one guerrilla fell a martyr and contact was lost with two others during the action.

TURKISH SOLDIERS ATTACKED VILLAGERS

HPG reported that Turkish soldiers murdered a civilian in Sincê region at South Kurdistan border, giving the following details;

"At 10:30 on May 3rd, Turkish soldiers deliberately targeted and hit 5 residents of the Sincê village at the border of South Kurdistan as they were on their way to the village. The attack with howitzer, mortar and artillery fire left one of the villagers dead and another injured.

Villagers that headed to the scene to retrieve the body of slain civilian were also bombed by Turkish soldiers, upon which the villagers had to return without being able to get the body from the area.”
