Doğubeyazıt District Governorate appointed two trustees in place of arrested DBP City Council members Halis Gültekin and İsa Karahan.
Trustees were appointed in place of two DBP City Council members in Doğubeyazıt district of Ağrı. By the authority of the statutory decree, the District Governorate appointed local shopkeeper Ayhan Topçi and Tahir Sekendür in place of arrested DBP City Council members Halis Gültekin and İsa Karahan. The appointment was relayed to the municipality by a cover letter.
Co-mayors M. Rohat Özbay and Delal Tekdemir made a statement on the trustee appointment and said, "Two of our friends are in prison right now. The trustees appointed in their place have no legitimacy in our eyes. We will protect what the people have trusted us with to the end. Democracy is built through the will of the people. These friends of ours have been elected as per their democratic right to represent the will of the people. We don't recognize the trustees appointed to the municipalities, which are the will of the people. We will continue our legal struggle to the end."
