20 soldiers killed in the Turkish base in Zakho

At least 20 soldiers of the Turkish army were killed in Zakho.

South Kurdistan Self Defense Forces released a statement announcing that they had targeted the Turkish base located in Zakho district of Duhok.

According to the statement, the action targeted the Girê Bîyê outpost of the Turkish army in the town of Bêgova at 18:00 on June 7.

The statement said; “Our forces put the positions, shelters and buildings in the outpost under fire from two directions. 20 enemy soldiers were killed as a result of effective strikes, while one military vehicle and several shelters in the premises burned down and were destroyed.”

According to the statement, the action was carried out in response to the Turkish state’s invasion operation against Xakurkê region of Medya Defense Zones in South Kurdistan land.

The statement continued; “In the aftermath of the action, the Turkish army shelled the surroundings of Rusê and Sundirê villages with howitzer and mortar fire. Turkish warplanes bombarded the Koordine Hill and surroundings of Sundirê village.”

The bombardments -added the statement- did not result in any loss of life but material damage in the vineyards and orchards of the local people.
