301 bodies still in cemeteries of the nameless

It has been years, and DNA samples have been submitted, but bodies of 301 people who lost their lives in Kurdistan have still not been identified. The bodies are still in cemeteries of the nameless in Eid this year.

Bodies of hundreds of people who were murdered during genocidal attacks at the time of curfews declared after July 24, 2015 in Northern Kurdistan are kept in cemeteries of the nameless.

Bodies of hundreds of HPG (People’s Defense Forces) and YPS (Civil Defense Units) members who lost their lives were kept in several morgues and cemeteries of the nameless in various cities, despite the families submitting numerous appeals. There are 23 bodies in Diyarbakır Yeniköy Cemetery, 27 in Urfa, 1 in Elazığ, 7 in Antep, 33 in Cizre, 17 in Silopi, 42 in Şırnak, 54 in Erzurum, 6 in Trabzon, 6 in Van, 10 in Siirt, 25 in Bitlis and 50 in Malatya waiting to be identified.

Families have appealed countless times to the Chief Public Prosecutor’s Offices and submitted DNA samples. But 301 bodies have still not been identified, and the bodies in 13 different cities were left without their relatives in yet another Eid.
