913 people returned to Shengal in June

The Shengal Commission for Welcoming Migrants announced that 913 families returned to Shengal in June, despite the attacks and obstacles of the Turkish state.

Shengal Democratic Autonomy Administration set up a commission on 15 May to receive refugees.

The Commission for Welcoming Migrants, in a statement, said they are working to create favourable conditions for the migrants returns.

The Commission said that some of the families' homes were destroyed and civil infrastructures were damaged in some areas of Shengal, therefore they intensified their work in the field of services.

The Commission noted that returning immigrants had no much so thanks to the help of the municipality, their homes were cleaned and families were settled. Some 913 of the families in South Kurdistan camps returned to Shengal in the month of June.

People are continuing to return to Shengal, said the Commission urging other refugees in the camps to return to their lands.

ISIS mercenaries launched a genocide attack against Shengal on 3 August 2014. While tens of thousands of people were rescued as a result of the intervention of the HPG and YPG forces, the mercenaries massacred thousands of people during the first attacks and kidnapped thousands of women and girls reducing them into sexual slaves.

The fate of many people is still unknown. Many people who fled their homes due to the attacks found shelter in camps in South Kurdistan.
