‘Öcalan’s call is the starting point for a solution in the Middle East’

Expressing its support for the ‘Call for Peace and Democratic Society’, South Kurdistan’s Committee for the Freedom of Abdullah Öcalan said: “The paradigm of the century is the starting point for a solution to the problems in the Middle East."

South Kurdistan’s Committee for the Freedom of Abdullah Öcalan made a statement at Azadî Park in Sulaymaniyah and expressed its support for the ‘Call for Peace and Democratic Society’ made by the Kurdish leader on 27 February.

The press statement read by Soran Mehmud pointed out that Öcalan’s call from İmralı has reached all the libertarian peoples of the world.

Mehmud said that Öcalan's call was the result of the struggle in the four parts of Kurdistan, the labor and sacrifices of the guerrillas and all the martyrs and the will of the political prisoners, who are one of the symbols of the revolution.

“Leader Öcalan's theses and ideas are the basis of the work and struggle of the Freedom Movement. He has the power to end the fascist mentality. The paradigm of the century presented by Leader Öcalan is the starting point for a solution to the politics and problems in the Middle East.”

Mehmud remarked that the PKK’s response to Öcalan’s call is “of great importance for those who have not yet grasped this honourable movement’s will to struggle.”

The statement continued: “26 years of captivity, torture and severe isolation could not lead Leader Apo [Abdullah Öalan] to hesitation and doubt. This great willpower made the Turkish state accept the fact that it was time for Leader Öcalan to resolve the Kurdish question in Turkey. This solution will also enable the collapse of the system established by the capitalist states which sacrificed the peoples of the region, mainly the Kurdish people, for their own interests during and after the First World War and has been struggling to this end for 100 years.

We should all know very well that the freedom of Leader Apo is the guarantee of this process, when his thoughts and ideas should be further introduced to society. Peoples need democratic modernity and a democratic nation based on co-existence. This is the only way to end poverty, to protect the environment, to orientate women towards their nature and to have a free life.”
