Turkish state forces continue to shell and make aerial bombardment announcements in Amed’s Sur district, where 3 big explosions happened this morning.
Self-rule resistance continues as the state forces’ siege and onslaught on Amed’s Sur district enters its 83rd day. Explosions and gunfires continued throughout the night, and tank and artillery fire increased this morning in the district.
3 major explosions took place in the district this morning, and communication with the trapped civilians has been cut. Helicopters roam above the district and the military continues its deployment of heavy weaponry. Turkish police only allow entrance to the district after extensive ID checks, and some residents living in the calmer parts of the district are returning to their homes.
The district is under the risk of being the next Cizre. In addition to their artillery shelling, state forces make announcements of an imminent aerial bombardment of the district.
HDP Amed parliamentarian Sibel Yiğitalp spoke to one of the wounded people trapped in Sur, and stated that state forces have been making announcements of aerial strikes to be carried out by the Turkish Airforce. Turkish warplanes had flown over Sur district at a low altitude last Thursday.
Yiğitalp also spoke to Diyarbakır Governor and said that the governor’s request of evacuating wounded people within a one hour-long ceasefire was impossible due to the high number of wounded people as well as the destruction of buildings that prevent civilians’ speedy exit from Sur. Yiğitalp noted that the end of the siege and the passage of ambulances into the district was the only possible solution.
HDP Amed parliamentarian stated that every passing minute increased the death toll in Sur, and recalled that the 55 years-old Fatma Ateş was shot when she had left her house in order to perform ablution and pray. Yiğitalp said that Ateş would have survived if she had received the necessary medical treatment, and called upon everyone to upset the Turkish state’s plans of carrying out further massacres of civilians.
