A large group including Mardin Metropolitan Municipality Co-mayor Ahmet Türk and Artuklu Municipality Co-mayors Emin Irmak and Leyla Sevinç have been detained. Türk was detained in a house raid and Irmak and Sevinç in the municipality building. Mardin Metropolitan Municipality Secretary General Baran İlhan is also among the detainees.

The detainees have been taken to Mardin Security Directorate Anti-terror Unit.

TÜRK: WE WILL NOT BOW DOWN NOW

Ahmet Türk was removed from office when AKP appointed a trustee to the Mardin Metropolitan Municipality. On a comment on November 17, Türk had said: “They couldn’t succeed in September 12 and in the 90’s, and they can’t now. They can not prevail, they can never intimidate us, like we didn’t bow down then, we will not bow down now either!
