Amed Co-mayor Gültan Kışanak also arrested

Amed Metropolitan Municipality Co-mayor Gültan Kışanak has been arrested by a Turkish court Sunday night.

Amed Metropolitan Co-Mayors Gültan Kışanak and Fırat Anlı were taken to Diyarbakır Courthouse earlier today after the procedures at the police headquarters ongoing since their detention on October 25.

The processing of Co-Mayors, who had not given their statements until they met their lawyers on Saturday, continued until Sunday morning, after which they were taken to Diyarbakır Courthouse for a hearing.

Anlı, accused of “membership to an illegal organisation” in the investigation with a confidentiality order, was arrested late Sunday evening.

Kışanak, similarly accused of “administration of an illegal organisation”, was also arrested Sunday night.

The bases of the accusations are the Co-Mayors municipal activities and the surveillance of the meetings that were carried out in the DTK (Democratic Society Congress) building.

KJA (Free Women's Congress) Spokeswoman Ayla Akat Ata, who had been detained during a demonstration held in front of Amed Metropolitan Municipality on October 26 in protest at the detainment of Co-mayors Gültan Kışanak and Fırat Anlı, was also arrested Sunday evening. Ata was also charged with ties with an "illegal organisation".
