As many locations across the region have suffered forest fires during the recent week, the fire on Mount Herekol that began in Kahiya Tûya area also continues to grow, having already reduced a large forested area to ashes.
Residents in Erkent village located in the foothills of the Mount Herekol were the first to intervene the fire with their own means but a large forested area of hundreds of hectares has already burned to ashes.
Villagers said they were having difficulty taking the fire under control, complaining that the Provincial Directorate of Forestry and Water Affairs took no action to extinguish the fire.
