Another ISIS attack reported in South Kurdistan

ISIS militiamen attacked Iraqi army checkpoints on Mount Qereçox near Maxmur last night. A skirmish ensued in which one soldier was slightly injured.

The terrorist militia ISIS is still active in southern Kurdistan (northern Iraq). Last night, Iraqi troops were attacked on Mount Qereçox, reported by the RojNews agency. According to the military commander Xazî Feysel from the Maxmur region, two Iraqi checkpoints in the village of Azîkendî in the Ferac valley were attacked. A battle broke out between the ISIS militiamen and the Iraqi military that lasted about half an hour. ISIS could be repelled by the Iraqi army, and the militiamen withdrew from the area. One Iraqi soldier was slightly injured.

ISIS continues to control a larger region in the southern Kurdish-Iraqi border area and repeatedly prepares attacks from there. There are daily attacks on Iraqi territory. Peshmerga in the region complain that they are practically fighting a losing battle there due to the poor equipment and the small forces that are in the region. According to statements by peshmerga commanders, South Kurdistan’s ruling party KDP is using the state-of-the-art equipment supplied by the anti-ISIS coalition, together with the largest contingents of troops, not to fight ISIS but to support the Turkish invasion of the guerrilla-controlled Medya Defense Zones in South Kurdistan.
