The Turkish army is once again conducting a military operation in the area surrounding the Bagok massif in Mardin province. Several hundred units of regular troops as well as units of the so-called village guards are concentrated in an operation area that includes the surroundings of the village of Qesir Belek. The village is located in the district of Nusaybin.
According to available information, the military operation at Bagok is continuing for the fourth day in a row. The Turkish air force is supporting its ground troops with reconnaissance from the air. There is no information about clashes with the Kurdish guerrillas. The People's Defence Forces (HPG) have not yet commented on the military activities in Nusaybin.
Since mid-November, air-supported operations have been taking place in the Bagok area in order to locate winter quarters of the guerrillas. On 15 December, six female guerrilla fighters were killed in clashes with Turkish troops in the region. The HPG have so far only released details of the fallen area commander Hîra Ulaş.
