Another youth left to die of wounds in Cizre

Civilian Orhan Tunç who was shot shot in Cizre's Cudi neighborhood has been left to die of wounds.

In Şırnak's Cizre district where a state of siege remains in place for over a month now, genocidal attacks by Turkish state forces are resulting in further civilian casualties every day.

21-year-old Orhan Tunç was shot by special operation police in Cudi neighborhood after he went out to learn about his brother last night. While no ambulance enters the neighborhood for “security reasons”, ongoing aggression by state forces hinder the youth's family and residents from reaching him.

Speaking about the situation, HDP Şırnak deputy Faysal Sarıyıldız who himself is in Cizre, told that they called the hospital and asked for help for Tunç, but were answered that an ambulance cannot enter the neighborhood for security reasons under the ongoing gunfire.

Sarıyıldız pointed out that 35 civilians have lost their lives after the rejection of an interim injunction by the European Court of Human Rights, adding; “It will help nothing if the ECtHR orders an interim injunction after all these people die. A total of 57 people have died as a result of the direct attacks by state forces during this most recent process of military siege.”

HDP MP stressed that the ECtHR should urgently give an interim injunction and end the ongoing curfews in the Kurdish region of Turkey.

The youth's elder brother Mehmet Tunç told the followings as to what happened; “We live in Nur neighborhood. I was in Cudi neighborhood when it was targeted by heavy attacks last night, as has been seen by the entire country. My brother couldn't reach me, he got worried and later left home for Cudi neighborhood to see if I was safe or not. He was deliberately targeted and shot on his way. His friends told us about the incident. Yet, we cannot reach Orhan now. There are two lifeless bodies lying on the ground on the nearby street, and we don't know who they are. We called the deputy (Sarıyıldız) and asked for help, but his efforts also remained inconclusive because no ambulance is allowed to go to the area. There is nothing we can do. My brother is dying there and we can't do anything.”

Speaking after, lawyer Ramazan Demir pointed out that people are left to die with wounds, adding; “State forces allow neither intervention nor access by our side. We will apply to the ECtHR and demand it take the necessary measures regarding Turkey before it is too late.”
