Police forces raided the offices of Democratic Regions' Party (DBP) and Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) in central Van province. While a detailed search continues in both offices that have been surrounded by armored vehicles, DBP provincial co-chair Murat Sarısaç who came to the office upon the raid was detained by police.
A number of people were detained during house raids in van's central Edremit district and Xaçort (Hacıbekir) neighborhood this morning.
Special operations teams carried out simultaneous house raids in Çaldıran district where DBP and HDP offices were also targeted and are being through a detailed search. DBP district co-chairs Şirvan Şahin and Mehmet Nasır Ürgen, HDP district co-chair Ali İhsan Taş, and DBP administrators Mustafa Kaya and Mahmut Salazer were taken into custody in the operation.
Police also conducted raids in Çatak district and detained HDP district co-chairs Şükrü Yavuz and Sevgi Eraslan and DBP district co-chair Medeni Özer.
During the house raids in Özalp district, HDP district co-chairs Recep Ceylancı and Sema Çaygeç and DBP district co-chair Aslı Kaymaz were taken into custody.
As part of the detention operation which was also conducted in Gürpınar district, HDP district co-chair Necat Tanış and DBP district co-chair Kemal Güler were taken into custody after a raid on their houses. Police forces have also raided the DBP office and are conducting a detailed search.
While the number of detentions is expected to increase within the scope of the ongoing operations, the detainees will reportedly be taken to Van provincial police headquarters.
