HDP MP Ali Atalan in Nusaybin said the military operations continued despite YPS declaring that they have withdrawn fully from the district and asked, “If these operations were against armed forces in the district, why do they continue despite the withdrawal?”

Atalan demanded an immediate end to the military operations and called on everybody to come to Nusaybin in solidarity to prevent the wounded and the civilians being killed.

Atalan is in Nusaybin that has been under martial law since March 14 and said: “YPS declared that they withdrew from the district. But the gunfire and the operations continue. There have been explosions and gunshots in several points in the city.”

Atalan said: “The state forces said they were conducting operations on the armed forces here. It would seem that that wasn’t the case. We see that this is a military operation to destroy a certain part of the city.”

Atalan relayed the rumors of moving part of the city towards İpekyolu’s Bagok mountain side and creating a buffer zone between the demolished neighborhoods and Qamishlo’s parts close to İpekyolu and said, “The developments show that the state does in fact have this goal.”

Atalan stated that Nusaybin and Qamishlo in Rojava are parts of the same historical and cultural makeup and said, “They want to create artificial cities by removing this cultural and historical bond and unity.”

HDP Mardin MP Ali Atalan said they received information that there were civilians in the neighborhoods with civilians and wounded people, but they didn’t have concrete information because there was no way to communicate, and called on the people: “We want our people to come to Nusaybin, like they did in Cizre, to stop the operations and save the lives of our civilian people. This is an urgent call to action. If we protect Nusaybin with the spirit of mobilization, we can stop the operations.”
