Bakur people in Bashur forced to leave their homes

Following the shooting at the restaurant Huqqabaz in Hewler on July 17, families from Northern Kurdistan (Bakur) who live in Southern Kurdistan’s (Bashur) Hewler, Duhok and Zakho provinces are being forced to leave their homes.

In an attack against the restaurant Huqqabaz in Hewler (Erbil) on July 17, three people including one Turkish consulate employee were killed. Following the attack, asayish (security) forces in Hewler, Duhok and Zakho have raided homes of many families from Northern Kurdistan.

RojNews reported based on families in Zakho that the asayish forces raided homes and gathered information on the residents.

The families were threatened to leave the region and told by the asayish, “You can’t stay here, either go to Rojava or other parts of Kurdistan.”

Reports say asayish forces raided at least 25 homes and pressured them to leave.

Lezgin Oremari from the Sheladize town in Duhok’s Amadiya district was subjected to asayish pressure. Originally from Maxmur, Oremari has lived in Sheladize with his family and children for long years. He was removed from the district by the asayish.

Similarly, asayish forces raided homes in Duhok and Hewler and gathered information on Northern families.

In Sulaymaniyah, asayish forces called over residents who came from Maxmur to work in the city. Some residents were told to visit the asayish station every day to sign in.

One person from Maxmur was detained in Sulaymaniyah but there are no details on the matter.
