An agreement was signed between the Iraqi government and the KDP on October 9, 2020, in which the will and institutions of the Shengal people are not recognized. The agreement caused reactions from many, especially the Yazidi people.

The Iraqi government, which deployed thousands of military forces to Shengal following the agreement, met with the Shengal Democratic Autonomous Council upon the public reaction. According to the decision taken at the meeting, Êzidîxan Asayish (local security force) centers will not be closed.

Dr. Kamiran Berwari was interviewed by ANF and made remarks on the Shengal agreement and the recent tension in Bashur (Southern Kurdistan).

Berwari recalled that the people of Kurdistan have been in a great resistance and struggle for the last 200 years. He continued: “The whole world should know that the Kurds will not accept to live without status. The conspiracy against Shengal is the continuation of the attacks of ISIS gangs in 2014. Following the decision taken in Jordan and Oman on June 1, 2014, ISIS gangs attacked Shengal. This conspiracy is still continuing. Neighboring countries and 7 international countries took part in this conspiracy.

The decision taken on October 9, 2020 and the occupation of Shengal amount to the same thing. Today, these forces want to complete the attacks that ISIS gangs left unfinished in 2014. The purpose of these 2 forces is the same. Other partners in the attacks on Shengal are the governments of Iraq and Bashur. With these attacks, they want to separate and disintegrate the Yazidi community.

Remarking that these occupying forces want to change the map of Shengal and adapt it to their interests, Berwari continued; “These forces know very well that the autonomy of Shengal will bring the end of all dictators in the parts of Kurdistan. They see this as a threat to them and want to destroy Shengal's autonomy.

The biggest embarrassment of the Iraqi forces and the KDP peshmerga was to leave the Yazidi people vulnerable and flee. After 6 years, they want to rule the Yazidi people without shame.

The attack on Shengal and the KDP's flight will never be forgotten. No one has the right to rule Shengal except the Shengal forces. The main owners of Shengal are those who took part in the resistance zone, the martyrs, the martyrs’ families and the Shengal Defense forces.

The Yazidi people do not need any external force. Because the Shengal defense force consists of the children of the Yazidi people. They can defend themselves.

The conspiratorial forces wanted to implement this plan first in Shengal, then they will turn to Rojava and Bashur. What made this conspiracy come to nothing is the resistance and will of the Yazidi community.

4 parts of Kurdistan should come together around Shengal, and Shengal Defense forces and protect the gains of the martyrs. Furthermore, I call on all political parties and international forces not to remain silent in the face of a new massacre. If Shengal is deserted, it means that a part of Kurdistan is deserted. We must do whatever we can to defend Shengal.”
