The attacks and clashes continued for 4 months in Mardin's Nusaybin district where many YPS members were buried in cemeteries of the nameless because the DNA results were delayed on purpose, while many others were left in the neighborhoods under curfew.
The families returned empty handed as the state forces refused to allow the collection of bodies from neighborhoods. The state launched a large-scale demolition project in the neighborhoods under curfew and surrounded by barbed wire in Nusaybin about a week ago, but there were no efforts to collect the bodies before the demolition. After the demolition started, two bodies were discovered in the rubble in transport.
Nusaybin’s former Co-Mayor Cengiz Kök protested the incident and asked for a body search, accompanied by a neutral health organization as it is possible that there are more bodies in the area.
“END THIS INHUMAN PRACTICE”
Kök spoke on the matter and gave the following information: “We have been saying that there are bodies in the banned neighborhoods in Nusaybin, and that the necessary searches haven’t been conducted. But the authorities choose to go on with the demolition, not the body search. During the demolitions, up to now, we have learned that two YPS members’ bodies were found among the piles of rubble in Abdulkadirpaşa and Yenişehir neighborhoods.”
Kök underlined that bodies being buried under debris and being discovered among the rubble in transport was painful and shameful, and called on the state to end this practice that goes against values of humanity.
“BODY SEARCHES WITH INDEPENDENT COMMITTEES”
Kök also stated that the demolition units didn’t check if there were any bodies inside either and that the bodies are left in the piles of debris and rubble. Kök pointed out that more will definitely come out from the demolition grounds as these two bodies were discovered and said there should be a search accompanied by independent health committees.
Kök said their previous appeals were left unanswered and added that with the discovery of the bodies now, no authorities should remain indifferent anymore.
