Buldan: Elections due to political and economic crisis

Speaking in the Northern Kurdish city of Iğdır, co-chair of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) Pervin Buldan said the election decision had been made because the AKP can no longer govern the country.

As part of preparations for the elections on June 24, an Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) delegation met with the people of the Kurdish city of Iğdır (Reşqelas). After a visit to the city's shops, a meeting took place in front of the local HDP building. The co-chair of HDP Pervin Buldan, co-chair of the Democratic Society Congress (DTK) Berdan Öztürk, deputy chair of the HDP parliamentary group Meral Danış Beştaş, deputy for Ağrı Dilan Dirayet Taşdemir, deputy for Iğdır Mehmet Emin Adıyaman, co-mayor of Iğdır Murat Yikit, deputy mayor of Ağrı Sırrı Sakık and hundreds of people attended the public meeting.

"They can no longer govern the country"

Pervin Buldan, who has been a parliamentarian for Iğdır for two parliamentary seasons, thanked the people for their interest. She explained in her speech, which was interrupted again and again by cheers and slogans, that this meeting was the beginning of a new phase. In the city, another big election event will be held: "Dear population of Iğdır, today we are not making a rally in Iğdır. This is a small meeting. Shortly before the election, we will meet here with our Kurdish and Azerbaijani siblings. We know that Iğdır is a city where Azerbaijanis, Kurds and the Terekemes live together peacefully. We will consider this city as a city of peace. We have days ahead of us, working day and night, going door-to-door. We will all win together and all work together. We have seen today that the people of Iğdır are ready for the election. When I was elected, we did not give anyone the first place, and we will do so again this year. That is our very success, of all women and young people, of all workers."

Buldan commented on the government's decision to hold an election now: "It's a decision that was made during a period of political and economic collapse in Turkey. Because they can no longer govern the country. Whatever they did, they could not reach 50 percent. They invaded Afrin but could not score with it themselves. Because the society in Turkey does not want to see any more war and tears."
