Amid reports of intensified raids and detentions in the town, co-mayor Leyla İmret has also been taken into custody by police Friday noon. While no, information was immediately available as to why İmret has been detained, she has been taken to Cizre police station.
Last September, Turkish Interior Ministry suspended İmret on accusations of "encouring Kurdish people to begin an armed uprising" in an interview on a curfew and crackdown staged by state forces in the town during those weeks. İmret rejected the order and continued her works since.
