The popular resistance against the state of siege by Turkish forces has left three weeks behind in Cizre and Silopi districts of Şırnak.

While Devran, Sanat, Zübeyde, Sarıyıldız and Susam streets of Cizre's Cudi neighborhood were targeted by artillery fire throughout yesterday evening, attacks in Silopi left a civilian dead and one other heavily wounded.

Cizre People's Assembly co-chair Asya Yüksel said people suffered not only tank and artillery attacks but also a psychological warfare, telling the followings; “Bombardments are conducted mainly between 4-5 am in the morning. Our neighborhoods are targeted by mortar and artillery attacks. Such heavy arms are being used against our people for the first time so far. State forces subject the people to psychological pressure in order to intimidate them, evacuate neighborhoods and ensure a mass displacement.”

Stressing that thousands of people still remain in the neighborhoods under attack, Yüksel said around 60 percent of the local population hasn't left the town despite all the attacks and deaths. These people are trying to protect themselves from bombardments in safer areas and basements of houses. 4-5 families are staying together in one single house. We are being through severe circumstances but our people are determined to remain in their neighborhoods and resist to protect them.”

Cizre People's Assembly co-chair underlined that some people had to leave their neighborhoods after demolition of their houses by shelling, and these have mainly settled in Konak neighborhood which is safer at the moment.

“As a resident of Cizre, I want to make it clear that people are determined to remain in their neighborhoods. We are not going anywhere and we are resisting in our neighborhoods. Our struggle is against the AKP dictatorship and for the democratization of Turkey.”

Yüksel stated that this resistance and struggle in Cizre will endure even one single person is left alive in the town, adding; "We have risen up against not the Turkish people but the dictatorship of the AKP government. No dictator has ever been eternal. The Turkish people in the west are also suffering same kind of practices under the atrocity of this dictatorship. They should also own their lives and give a struggle against it. Our fight should unite and grow stronger in order for this despotism to end."
