Co-mayor of Amed’s Lice district, Rezan Zuğurli, who was dismissed and in whose place the state appointed a trustee as part of the crackdown on Kurdish municipalities, has been arrested due to a definitive judgement.
Zuğurli and her mother were stopped by the police with an armored vehicle as they walked on the Lise Avenue in Amed’s Çamlıca vicinity. Zuğurli’s mother tried to prevent the police from detaining her daughter, upon which both the co-mayor and her mother were battered. Police dragged Zuğurli into the armored vehicle and left the scene while her mother fell down and got injured.
A civilian passing by the scene was also battered and detained for protesting the police violence during the co-mayor’s detention.
Zuğurli and her two-year-old baby were taken to Diyarbakır E Type Closed Prison.
Lice Co-mayor Rezan Zuğurli had been sentenced to 4 years and 2 months in prison, and jailed for 13 months in 2012 for allegedly “committing an offense on behalf of a terrorist organization despite not being a member”.
