Co-mayors of Şırnak’s İdil district Mehmet Muhdi Aslan and Nevin Girasun (arrested) were removed from office by the Ministry of the Interior. The co-mayors were removed from office after the petition signed by Local Administrations General Director Ömer Doğanay was accepted by the Minister of Interior Süleyman Soylu.

The petition by the Local Administrations General Director Ömer Doğanay includes the following:

“Due to the ongoing preliminary investigation launched two months ago by the İdil Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office on İdil Mayor Mehmet Muhdi Aslan for allowing the İdil Municipality owned construction equipment and other vehicles, along with their personnel, to be used in terrorist actions and the allegations of abusing authority, and the preliminary investigation on İdil Municipality City Council Member Nevin Girasun with the allegations of membership to a terrorist organisation and aiding and abetting a terrorist organisation, for the sake of a healthy investigation, it is necessary to propose a removal from office for İdil Mayor Mehmet Muhdi Aslan and City Council Member Nevin Girasun.

I respectfully request that İdil Mayor Mehmet Muhdi Aslan and City Council Member Nevin Girasun be removed from office as a temporary precaution, according to the Constitution Article 127, Clause 4 and Municipalities Law No.5393.”

The removal of co-mayors shows that the state is preparing to appoint trustees to İdil Municipality, like 24 other DBP municipalities.
