Conference on Kurdish leader Abdullah Öcalan in Southern Kurdistan
A three-day conference titled “Peace and Stability in the Middle East through the ideas of Abdullah Öcalan” is being held in Southern Kurdistan’s Sulaimani city.

A conference titled “Peace and Stability in the Middle East through the ideas of Abdullah Öcalan” is being held in Southern Kurdistan’s Sulaimani city. Mandela’s lawyer Essa Moosa and Öcalan’s lawyer İbrahi Bilmez, as well as Samuel Jordan from the US, Rojava Jineology Academy Representative Zozan Sima and many other speakers will be attending the conference.
The conference organised by Academy of Politics and Democratic Thought in Southern Kurdistan has started in Sulaimani Palas Hotel at 10.00 today.
The conference with 150 delegates will last for 3 days. Kurdistan Patriots Union Central Committee Member Mele Bextiyar will give a presentation titled “The isolation conditions Öcalan is in, the international conspiracy, Öcalan’s paradigm and proposals for solution” following Dr. Faik Gulpi’s opening speech in the name of the preparation committee.
The conference will continue after Bextiyar’s presentation and there will be a cinevision screening on Kurdish People’s Leader Abdullah Öcalan’s biography.
ATTENDANCE FROM DIFFERENT COUNTRIES
The conference will last for 3 days and will be attended by people from four parts of Kurdistan and from other countries.
FIRST DAY
There will be a presentation by DTK Co-chair Hatip Dicle and Öcalan’s lawyer İbrahim Bilmez, moderated by Ertuğrul Kürkçü, titled “Behind the Scenes in the International Conspiracy Against Abdullah Öcalan”.
Sozdar Cizre and Necibe Qeredaxi will give a presentation on life in İmralı Prison.
HDP Co-Vice Chair Aysel Tuğluk will moderate the session titled “Isolation Against Öcalan and the İmralı System”. International Peace Initiative member Judge Essa Moosa, HDP Ankara MP Sırrı Süreyya Önder and AHB lawyer Rezan Sarıca will present in the session.
Kurdish politician Hesen Cudi will give a presentation titled “The reasons for the crisis and chaos in the Middle East, Öcalan’s analysis on the Middle Eastern crisis and chaos”.
First session of the conference is titled “Power in the Middle East and the dead end of the nation state”. Anthropologist Prof. Dr. David Graeber’s presentation in the session moderated by Mohammed Nureddin from Lebanon is titled “Power as a philosophical problem”. More presentations in the same session are: Hewler University lecturer Dr. Kamiran Mentiq - “The Current Problems of Nation States in the Middle East”, Journalist İrfan Aktan - “The History and Reality of the Turkish Nation State”, Samuel Jordan - “The insistence of global powers on nation states in the Middle East by the US example”.
The second session in the conference is titled “Mentality, Nationalism, Orientalism, Dogmatism and Sectarianism in the Middle East”.
Ali Kenanoğlu will moderate the session. HDP İstanbul MP Hüda Kaya will give a presentation titled “Mentality, Sectarianism and Dogmatism in the Middle East”. Firas Qassas from Syria will present “The Fundamentals of Nationalism”, Bahram Rehmani from Iran will present “Orientalism as Scientific Method”, and HDP Mardin MP Prof. Dr. Mithat Sancar will present “Islam of the Ruler in the 21st Century”.
SECOND DAY
First session of the second day is titled “The Women’s Freedom Issue”. Zehra Mohammed from Palestine will moderate the session and Sara Aktaş will present “The Problematisation of Women’s Existence”, Srood Ahmad will present “The Reflections of the Women’s Issue on the Political and Social Spheres” and Leyla Reşid Qehreman from Kongra Star will present “Awareness of the Women’s Issue in Rojava and Syria”.
Sanjay Singhvi will moderate the fourth session titled “Problematisation of Economy”.
Ali Yasin will present “Economic Policies in the Middle East” and Necla Bakır from KJA will present “Women and Economy”.
In the part titled “Democratic Middle East Union Solution Experiences” politician Büşra Ali will give a presentation titled “Abdullah Öcalan’s Proposals for the Democratic Middle East”.
The first session of this part is titled “The Democratic Nation and Democratic Autonomy Projects”. Kamal Chomani will moderate the session.
TEV-DEM Executive Council member Aldar Xelil will present “The Democratic Nation as the Collocation of Diversity” and Northern Syria Democratic Federation Co-President Mansur El Selum will present “The Democratic Autonomous Rojava/Northern Syria Experience”.
KJA Spokeswoman Ayla Akat Ata will give a presentation titled “Democratic Autonomy as a Push of Democracy in Turkey and Bakurê Kurdistan”.
The second session of this part will focus on “The necessity for a shift in mentality”. Mansour Teifuri will moderate the session and Hawjin Melle Amin will present “Mentality revolution in overcoming Crisis Politics”, Nazan Üstündağ will present “The Sociological Importance of a Mentality Revolution” and Rojava Jineology Academy Representative Zozan Sima will present “Methods of struggle in developing the mentality revolution”.
THIRD DAY
The fist session of the third day is titled “Women’s Freedom Revolution in the Middle East”. Dr. Farah Sabir from Iraq will moderate the session. KJA Representative Ceylan Bağrıyanık will present “The reality of revolution within a revolution”, Tunisia Women’s Colaition founder and Preident Salwa Giga will present “Women’s Search for Liberation and Their Experience in the Arab World”, PYD Co-chair Asya Abdullah will present “Women’s Revolution in Democratizing Politics and the Society” and Kobanê Canton Executive Council President Enver Muslim will present “The Transformation of Patriarchy with the Revolution”.
The fourth session titled “Building the Economy” will start with Leo Saldanha’s presentation titled “The new economic system in building the free society”, followed by a presentation titled “Developing a Communal Economy” by Nahide Zengin from Rojava.
HDP Urfa MP Dilek Öcalan will moderate the “Middle East Democratic Confederation in the Current Reality” session.
KNK Co-chair Dr. Rebwar Reşid will present “The Middle East Democratic Confederation Alternative”, Assyrian Unity Party Executive Council Member Elîsabeth Cawriye will present “Building the Democratic Syria”, Rekawt İsmail İbrahim will present “The future of Southern Kurdistan” and Esad Hamad Riyah from Iraq will present “The future of Iraq”.
The subject for the last session of the conference is the campaigns for the freedom of Abdullah Öcalan.
Dr Kamiran Berwari, member of the Freedom for Öcalan Southern Kurdistan Initiative, will moderate the session which will deal with the efforts concerning the ending of Kurdish People’s Leader Abdullah Öcalan’s captivity. Essa Moosa, Aysel Tuğluk, İbrahim Bilmez and Reimar Haidar will give speeches in the session. The conference will end with the outcome declaration and Kurdish Culture Night.
