CPT: Turkey killed 123 civilians in South Kurdistan since 2015

The Inter-Community Peace Group (CPT) said that the Turkish state has carried out more than 4,000 air, ground and artillery attacks in South Kurdistan since 2015, and added that 123 people were killed.

The Community Peacemaker Team (CPT - Inter-Community Peace Group) has published a report titled “Stop the border bombardment” about the Turkish state's attacks on the lands of South Kurdistan and the damage caused by the attacks.

Attacks continue for 7 years

The CPT report drew attention to the massacre carried out by the Turkish state in the village of Perex in Zakho, and said: “An attack took place in the village of Perex near Zaxo on 20 July 2022. This attack resulted in the death of 9 citizens and the injury of 24 citizens. These attacks in which Turkey targets civilians, have been going on for seven years in Northern Iraq.

1,600 attacks in 2021

The report also said that the Turkish army has carried out more than 4,000 air, land and artillery attacks on the Iraqi borders since 2015. It was noted that 1,600 attacks were carried out in 2021 alone, and it was underlined that these attacks not only disrupted the peace of the region, but also negatively affected the lives of citizens living in those regions.

123 civilians killed in 7 years

The report said that 98 to 123 civilians were killed as a result of the attacks carried out by the Turkish state from 2015 to the beginning of 2022. It was stated that 55 percent of those killed were shepherds or farmers who were targeted while on the job.

13 percent of those killed were women

The CPT report also underlined that 13 percent of those killed were women, 87 percent were men, and at least 6 were children. It was also noted that about 500 villages are under threat of evacuation.
