Democratic Regions Party (DBP) held its 4th Extraordinary Congress, during which Kamuran Yüksek and Sebahat Tuncel were elected as the party’s new Co-Presidents.

TUNCEL: WE WILL NOW CONSTRUCT DEMOCRATIC AUTONOMY

DBP’s new Co-President Sebahat Tuncel spoke during the congress and said that the people massacred during the genocidal attacks of state forces would be immortalized in the struggle of DBP. Tuncel criticized AKP policies and attacks on Kurdistan, and called upon everyone to resist AKP fascism. The DBP Co-President said that Turkey would either democratize or get worse, and the Kurdish movement does not request anything from the state but declares that it will construct democratic autonomy. Tuncel emphasized that Kurdish People’s Leader Abdullah Öcalan’s freedom was the only option of peace in Turkey, and called for a return to the negotiation process between the state and the PKK.

DEMİRTAŞ: WE WILL NOT TAKE A STEP BACK

HDP Co-President Selahattin Demirtaş also spoke during the DBP congress and said that the Kurdish movement would not take a step back, but continue its struggle until victory. Demirtaş stated that the AKP only accepts artificial and assimilated Kurds, and emphasized that the existence of Kurdish nation and Kurdistan should be acknowledged. The HDP Co-President criticized the political genocide operations of the AKP government, and said that Kurdish people would not bow down in the face of oppression.

Mehmet Nuri Özman, Sevim Dursun, Lütfiye Gürbüz, Ruken Yılmaz, Hüsamettin Zenderlioğlu, Seyithan Laçin and Hikmet Duman were elected as the party’s new Central Discipline Committee, and the 70 people listed below were determined as the permanent members of the party assembly:
