DBP Vice Co-chair Seydi Fırat formally arrested

DBP Vice Co-chair Seydi Fırat who was detained in Amed two days ago, has been formally arrested for alleged membership to a terrorist organisation.

DBP Vice Co-chair Seydi Fırat, member of the 1999 Peace Group, was detained in Amed two days ago within the scope of an operation against politicians who served in the Democratic Society Congress (DTK).

Fırat appeared in a court in Amed last night and he was formally arrested.

HDP Vice Co-chair Aysel Tuğluk, former DTK Council members Cafer Kan, Edip Yaşar and Abdulbaki Karadeniz were also arrested in the scope of the same investigation.

DBP Headquarters said in a written statement that the arrest of Seydi Fırat for unfounded reasons was totally a political repression policy.

DBP stressed that all the efforts to eliminate the structures that oppose the pro-war ruling will fail, and that political movements familiar with such processes will continue their struggle in a more determined manner.

DBP vowed that the struggle for peace to prevail and for Turkey to democratize will be kept going and a price will be paid for democracy to dominate in these lands.
