A delegation of the DEM Party, consisting of Co-Chairs Tülay Hatimoğulları and Tuncer Bakırhan and Group Deputy Chairs Gülistan Kılıç Koçyiğit and Sezai Temelli met with the MHP (Nationalist Movement Party) in Ankara on Tuesday.
The meeting with MHP Leader Devlet Bahçeli and party members Fethi Yıldız and Celal Adan lasted 40 minutes.
According to a statement by the DEM Party Press Office, the meeting, which included a comprehensive exchange of views on developments in Turkey and the region, took place in an extremely constructive atmosphere.
The meeting also discussed developments following Abdullah Öcalan’s February 27 ‘Call for Peace and Democratic Society’, Turkey's democratization process, the recent meeting between the DEM Party Imralı Delegation and Abdullah Öcalan, and the PKK’s decision to disband and disarm, announced on May 12.
The topics of discussion were the steps to be taken to advance the process, the role to be played by the Parliament, the new judicial package, the commission expected to be established in the Parliament, and the constitution.
The DEM Party Press Office stated, “It was highlighted that it is of critical importance to establish a fully authorized commission within the Grand National Assembly of Turkey, as called for by Bahçeli, and to adopt a method that will ensure the active involvement of political parties in this process. In this context, our delegation will meet with the AKP delegation at the Grand National Assembly of Turkey tomorrow.”
