Demonstration in Halabja to protest Turkish chemical attacks tomorrow

A mass march will be organized by different segments of society, political parties and non-governmental organizations in Halabja against the invading Turkish state's use of chemical gas and banned weapons.

Protests continue in response to the invading Turkish state's crimes against the guerrilla forces in southern Kurdistan (northern Iraq) after a video published by ANF on October 18, showing two PKK (Kurdistan Workers' Party) members suffering from a chemical attack in Iraq's Kurdistan Region.

A mass demonstration will be held in front of the Halabja Monument at 15.00 tomorrow (Oct. 25) to protest the Turkish state's use of chemical gas and banned weapons against the Kurdistan freedom guerrillas.

Organizers of the march urged all citizens to participate in the protest march during which the Turkish state’s crimes would be denounced.

HALABJA MASSACRE

The regime of then-President of Iraq, Saddam Hussein’s ‘Anfal’ campaign of genocide against the Kurds in southern Kurdistan (northern Iraq), took place from February to September 1988. Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein gave the order for the campaign, which was carried out by his cousin, Ali Hasan Al Majid. More than 180 thousand Kurdish civilians were killed in the process. The most notorious genocidal attack of the campaign was the chemical attack on Halabja on March 16, 1988, when a shelling was launched on the city of Halabja with rockets and Napalm. At least 5,000 people died following the attack in Halabja.
