Dispute continues over who provided the Turkish state with the coordinates for the 5 peshmergas who lost their lives in the bombing in Shengal on April 24 by the AKP-KDP alliance. The Rojeva Medya newspaper published an article by Mihyedîn Melko on the background of the incident, which includes serious allegations.

“THE PESHMERGA’S LOCATION WAS GIVEN TO THE TAF ON PURPOSE”

The article titled “Who gave the peshmerga's location to the Turkish jet fighters?” claimed that the coordinates for the 5 peshmergas were given to the Turkish state by Federal Kurdistan Prime Minister Nechirvan Barzani himself, in an attempt to start a slander campaign against the PKK. Melko penned the allegations last week, and in his column this week he wrote about the KDP administration’s silence on the matter.

“SILENCE AN ADMISSION OF GUILT”

Melko cited “sources very close to the KDP” for his information and wrote that the authorities chose silence after the issue was voiced in the media, and the reason for that is the fear and panic that a statement would make the issue more visible by the opposition media in Southern Kurdistan.

Melko stressed that the issue was attempted to be covered up and included the following in his article: “The KDP press answers all allegations against the Barzanis in the media, but they are silent about the peshmergas’ death. But we know that silence in the face of such scandalous allegations means an admission of guilt.”

WHAT HAPPENED?

According to Rojeva Medya, a KDP committee including Masrour Barzani and a committee from the Turkish Intelligence Servie MİT met at Khabur one day before the bombing to determine the locations to be bombed in Shengal. And on the night of the attack, Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu informed Nechirvan Barzani personally to confirm the coordinates.

Reliable sources close to the KDP said the following on the background of the incident: “The 5 peshmergas who lost their lives were killed after they were made into targets by Nechirvan Barzani, and the KDP media launched a campaign to incite the people of Southern Kurdistan against the PKK and the YBŞ. They attempted to create a basis for a ‘peshmergas are losing their lives because of PKK’ campaign through this.”
