Dozens of people who gathered to protest upon the call of the New Generation Movement were detained in Hewler and Sulaymaniyah.
Following the demonstrations launched by the Sadr Movement against corruption and injustice in Iraq on 30 July, protests began across South Kurdistan as well after the leader of the New Generation Movement, Shahsuwar Abdulwahid, called on the people to take to the streets on Wednesday.
Public Security Forces attacked the demonstrators gathered for protest in Hewler and Sulaymaniyah. Many protesters have been detained, according to reports.
Previously, journalist Eyüp Eli Werti from KNN channel, Letif Goran and Biryar Nêrweyi of NRT Television, and Aram Hüseyin, one of the Duhok officers of the New Generation Movement, were detained by KDP forces in Duhok.
