Democratic Society Congress (DTK) issued a written statement on the detainment of Amed Co-Mayors Gültan Kışanak and Fırat Anlı.

In its statement, the DTK said "The detainment of Gültan Kışanak and Fırat Anlı and the illegal raid on the municipal building are indicators of the AKP governments desperate attacks. We condemn the attacks of this fascist and colonialist mentality against the will and representatives of our people."

DTK stated that the attacks on Kışanak and Anlı are attacks on not only Kurdish people but also on the shared values, will and democratic gains of all peoples, and aim to eliminate the peoples’ struggle for democracy. DTK warned that silence and lack of objection will only help increase the intensity of the attacks, and called for democratic protests and resistance with the spirit of mobilization.

DTK also called upon the United Nations, the European Council, the European Parliament and international organizations to take a stance and show solidarity with the detained Co-Mayors of Amed.

Lastly, DTK said "No oppression, detainment or arrest will be sufficient to break the will of our people, who will stand tall and resist these attacks as they have always done so far and gain victory."
