DTK, DBP and HDP call for massive protests for Shengal

DTK Co-chair Güven "We will stand with Shengal with the spirit of Kobanê. We need to rise up and shout out that Shengal is not alone. Everyone should join the protest on the streets."

Democratic Society Congress (DTK), Democratic Regions' Party (DBP) and Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) held a press conference at the DBP office in Amed today about the Turkish state’s attacks on Rojava and Shengal. The press briefing was attended by DTK Co-chair Leyla Güven, DBP provincial branch Co-chair Ruken Akça, HDP provincial branch Co-chair Gülsen Özer, and members of Free Women's Movement (TJA).

Speaking about the Turkish warplanes' bombardment on Shengal last night, DTK Co-chair Leyla Güven said: "We are informed that civilians, peshmergas and YPG fighters lost their lives. We condemn this attack and we will not allow the will of the Kurds to be broken. Shengal is still a target of ISIS. Everyone is their target after Kurds. YBŞ is defending the people."

Güven noted that the attack aims to change the agenda after their referendum defeat of the AKP and MHP, continuing as follows; "AKP and MHP have lost against Kurds. Kurds have united and AKP has finished. We call upon the government of South Kurdistan; do not allow Turkish soldiers to strike your land. Whoever lose their lives there are our brothers and sisters. Therefore, stop this dirty alliance. As Kurdish institutions, we see the bombardment of Shengal as a bombardment of Amed. All parts of Kurdistan should unite. We will stand with Shengal just like we stood with Kobanê. We must rise up now and show that Shengal is not alone."

DTK Co-chair called upon peoples to support Shengal and said “Everyone should plan from now on; let us go out to the streets, which is our right. People in Turkey are also rising up and ask for their votes. It is a similar process. There is a state of emergency here and we don’t accept it. We will stand with Shengal with the spirit of Kobanê. The powers providing security in the Middle East should not have allowed the bombardment of these lands. Why are they silent? We will do our part. Today is the day of struggle and resistance. We will prevail just like how we won the referendum."
