Thousands bid farewell to HPG guerrilla Orhan Baran martyred in Shengal and YPG fighter Fîras Erkendî martyred in Shaddadi in Qamishlo today.
HPG (People's Defense Forces) guerrilla İbrahim Hüso -nom de guerre Orhan Baran- who died during the KDP/AKP gangs' attack on Shengal on 3 March, and YPG (People's Defense Units) fighter Fereh Tufan -nom de guerre Fîras Erkendî- who died in Shaddadi on 3 March, were laid to rest in Qamishlo city of Rojava today.
Thousands joined the funeral procession from the People's House in Antariyah neighborhood to the Martyr Delil Saruxan Cemetery where YPG-YPJ fighters held a military ceremony.
Speaking after the military ceremony, TEV-DEM Executive Council member Aldar Xelîl offered condolences to the families of martyrs, saying: "Every word to be spoken and every promise to be made on the resistance of the martyrs will remain lacking. Martyrs are what to be proud of the most."
Aldar Xelîl saluted the resistance mounted by YBŞ/YJŞ (Shengal/Women's Defense Units) against the attacks, and said: Today is a sad day, our fighters fell as martyrs by the hand of brothers. This is not a coincidental incident but a planned attack, the goal of which is to disable the resistance in Shengal and Rojava. However, it must be known that these plans and attacks will fail. Thousands of Rojava and Shengal youths are sacrificing their lives for this cause, and millions are following in their footsteps.
Now that KDP puts forward a goal to defend Shengal, then why does it close the Sihêlê gate and blockade the region? On no account can there be this much enmity. Once their policy ended, they started to attack, and they revealed their true face."
Speaking after, YPG commander Gelî Serhat vowed that "We will protect our people from massacres, and we will not remain silent on this betrayal."
Orhan Baran’s brother Ebdullah Hüso also spoke, saying the followings: "I am proud of my brother's martyrdom. KDP will always be an obstacle to the unity of the Kurdish people. We will never retreat in the face of the betrayers. My father fell a martyr in Rojava, another brother in Bakûr and Orhan in Bashur Kurdistan. We will make our bodies a shield and defend our lands in four parts of Kurdistan."
Following the speeches, the HPG and YPG martyrs were laid to rest to the accompaniment of slogans ″Şehîd namrin″ (Martyrs are Immortal) and "Damn with Betrayal".
