A huge fire has erupted in Hotel Capitol in Hewler city of South Kurdistan Friday evening.

While the cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained, it is reported that 17 people lost their lives and 10 others were injured.

According to eyewitnesses, the fire started in the message hall of the hotel, and has yet to be extinguished. Initial reports say that victims are mainly of foreign origin.

No official statement has been made regarding the incident yet.
