A fire broke out in one of the important symbols of Batman, the Yılmaz Güney Cinema. The fire is alleged to have broken out due to electrical failure, which then spread immediately and the flames engulfed the building. The fire department intervened, but most of the cinema was reduced to ashes in the fire.

The locals claim the fire department was late in intervening and protested the firefighters. Cooldown efforts began after the fire was put out.

The cinema was built in 2006 by the Batman Municipality and was shut down after the DBP municipality had a trustee appointed. Kurdish Short Film Festival held in this cinema brought thousands of cinephiles together in the city every year.
